Piston top over Nets at Continental

By: Jeep

It was a horrifying night at Continental Airlines for the New Jersey Nets due to their struggles. Vince Carter missed 8 consecutive shots until 3rd quarter. He was 4 - 15 off the floor and 0-2 from three. However, he managed to drop 11 points , 5 assists and 5 rebounds. As for J- Kid, he finished with 15 points and only 2 dimes!!!! The only surprise in this game was the effort from Mikkie Moore in which he shot from 60 percent from the field but was not enough to win the game. Unfortunately, The Nets lose 89 to 113 in favor of the Detroit Pistons.

Nets' Carter high-flying vs. Pacers

Vince Carter had to take some time to think about the last time he's played this well in the playoffs.

Finally, he recalled the 2001 Eastern Conference semifinals, when he averaged more than 30 points for Toronto in a seven-game series best remembered for his scoring duel with Philadelphia's Allen Iverson.

Now, Carter is averaging 30 points, nearly nine rebounds and five assists in New Jersey's first-round Eastern Conference series against the Indiana Pacers. His 34-point, 15-rebound effort in a 92-86 win Tuesday night gave the Nets a 3-2 series lead heading into Game 6 Thursday in Indianapolis.

Vince Carter had 34 points, 15 rebounds and a game-clinching dunk with 28 seconds to play Tuesday night as the Nets beat the Pacers 92-86 to take a 3-2 lead in their best-of-seven first-round series.

Carter has 33, Nets get even with Pacers

The Indiana Pacers know what to expect from Vince Carter and the New Jersey Nets. They don't quite get the officials.

Carter rebounded from a dismal shooting performance to score 33 points Tuesday night and lead the New Jersey Nets to a 90-75 victory over the foul-plagued and undermanned Pacers, evening their first-round series at a game apiece.

VC's Line: 33 pts, 12-20, 5 reb, 5 ast

Coach Frank wants Carter to keep shooting

A day after New Jersey lost Game 1 of its first-round series with the Indiana Pacers, Nets coach Lawrence Frank was miffed.

His ire had nothing to do with the last-second foul call that put New Jersey in an early hole in the best-of-seven series. Rather, it centered on the way Nets guard Vince Carter was treated Monday after a dismal 12-for-33 shooting effort in the 90-88 loss.

Too many shots. Bad shot selection. They were all part of the media report card that focused on the misses more than Carter's 31 points and 13 rebounds.

Carter has awful shooting game in Nets' opener vs. Pacers

Unless Vince Carter was dunking, he missed just about everything in the New Jersey Nets' playoff opener against the Indiana Pacers on Sunday.

It was so bad, the All-Star guard could only laugh at himself during and after the Pacers' 90-88 win at the Continental Airlines Arena in Game 1 of their best-of-seven series.

Carter Is Committed to Redefining a Playoff Image

The defining playoff images for some players include hoisting trophies and flashing diamond-studded rings.

Vince Carter's postseason reputation is a bit less sanguine: It is defined by a wayward shot at the buzzer and the criticism of his decision to attend his college graduation.

This season's Nets are providing Carter with his best opportunity to create pleasurable playoff memories. It might be one reason he took time out last week to poke fun at his biggest postseason mishap.

A return to Vinsanity?

It's still easy to picture Vince Carter trapped 18 feet from the basket by Tyrone Hill as Game 7's final tenths blur off the clock in the Eastern Conference semifinals. Carter, off-balance, gives Hill a pump fake and hurls a shot high through the breathless air in Philadelphia. A heavy clank, a loud cheer, an 88-87 victory for the 76ers. And the end of Vince Carter as we knew him.

But Carter can alter the enduring image of the miss. He can prove he is not made of straw, that he has the toughness -- physical and mental -- to boost a team in the postseason.

Carter has triple-double, Nets top Heat

Vince Carter made his case on Saturday that he should've been voted a starter for the Eastern Conference for this month's All-Star game.

Carter had 28 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists for his second career triple-double and the New Jersey Nets beat the Miami Heat 105-92 for their 10th straight home win.
